As Actors Vote To Ratify Strike Agreement, Concerns About AI Remain

Actors now have all of the details of the tentative contract negotiated by SAG-AFTRA leadership over the course of their nearly four-month strike. Negotiators point to wage increases and more streaming residuals for some as wins in the more than $1 billion deal. But for many performers, the existential threat of artificial intelligence still looms large, and they have concerns about how the technology will affect their profession going forward. Pluto TV Debuts A New Channel For Car Chase Enthusiasts

In Southern California, police pursuits are about as ubiquitous as palm trees. The first televised car chase in Los Angeles County dates back to 1992 when a news helicopter followed a Volkswagen Cabriolet from the 5 freeway to the 710 to the 405. The ratings for that chase went through the roof and Los Angeles became the car chase capital. The free streaming service, Pluto TV is capitalizing on the fascination many people have with car chases with a new 24-hour police pursuit channel called, “Car Chase.” Joining us to talk about his own fascination with car chases and what he learned from watching the car chase channel is Gustavo Arellano, columnist for the Los Angeles Times.

Interest Rates May Finally See Cuts After Federal Reserve's 2-Year Battle With Inflation Seemingly Ends

On AirTalk we’ve tracked how in the last couple of years the Federal Reserve, during the Biden Administration, has hiked interest rates up as a way to curve inflation. Recent data from the financial services company Tradeweb found that as inflation fears seem to have cooled so have the need for high interest rates, with their rate expectations data envisioning interest rates back to a sub-5 percent federal funds rate by summer 2024. Although it’ll take time to move off the roughly 5.33% we see today, this seemingly seems like a step in the right direction for the American economy. Today on AirTalk, we’ll get into the reality of this data coming into fruition with Nancy Wallace, professor of Real Estate at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and get into the housing market implications of this with Logan Motashami, lead analyst for HousingWire.

In the last decade, the video game industry has tripled in size. But the growth comes at a cost. Growing competition, adjusting to post-pandemic demand and the increased cost of production have led companies to labor cuts. Layoffs aren’t just confined to a few companies, but rather are taking place globally, leading experts to view this current period as one of the most volatile for the video game industry in decades. Joining us today on AirTalk is Sarah Parvini, Los Angeles Times reporter covering the video game industry.
