Washington Post Commentator Steven Pearlstein Headlines Business Forecast Luncheon, June 9

Steven Pearlstein, award-winning business and economics columnist for The Washington Post, will weigh in on whether the US is headed for “Sustainable Recovery or Economic Mirage” at the Haas School’s 17th annual Business Forecast Luncheon, Wednesday, June 9, at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco.

Named one of the 50 most influential commentators in the nation by The Atlantic, Pearlstein was the first business columnist ever to be awarded a Pulitzer when he won the prize for commentary in 2008. In addition to opining twice weekly in The Post, Pearlstein co-hosts “On Leadership,” an online forum and video series at http://views.washingtonpost.com/leadership. His co-host is Raju Narisetti, the newspaper's managing editor.

Pearlstein first joined the Post in 1988 as deputy business editor, overseeing the paper’s daily and Sunday coverage. He returned to reporting in 1991 to cover the defense industry, following the end of the Cold War. Two years later, he became the newspaper’s chief economic correspondent. He began writing his column for the Post in the spring of 2003, quickly earning a reputation for unpredictable, hard-hitting commentary on issues from business and management to economics and economic policy.

Pearlstein previously served as press secretary and administrative assistant to former New Hampshire Senator John Durkin after catching the senator’s eye with his coverage of local, state, and federal courts. He later served as administrative assistant to US Representative Michael Harrington of Massachusetts.

The Business Forecast Lunch will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. For more information on the luncheon, visit haas.berkeley.edu/alumni/bfl/.
