Ten, Nine, Eight…Countdown to the Haas Holiday Party, Dec. 9 (Plus Haas Gear Holiday Sale)

Ground control to Major Tom. Calling all karaoke aficionados and other talented Haas folk to top last year's stellar David Bowie rendition by Ron Griffith at this year's Haas Holiday Celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 9.

The festivities will run from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Bank of America Forum and once again include a talent show, with another solo from Dean Rich Lyons. This year's entertainment also will feature in-house talent DJ Betsy-La and MC Lucas Abbott.

Participation prizes will be handed out to all talent show performers, and judges representing each Engage@Haas cohort will select a grand prize for the winning act's department. The karaoke song list is posted at haasstafflounge.blogspot.com. Get your act together and add your name to the list of performers by emailing Betsy Cardis by 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7.

If your talent doesn't lend itself to the stage, have no fear. There's still an opportunity for you to show off through the Engage@Haas Holiday Hobby Faire in the upper level of the BofA Forum. Budding artists will display and sell their creations – just in time for the holidays. If you would like to participate, email Shelby Chin detailing your showcase items so that she can reserve table space for you.

In addition to the live entertainment, the celebration will serve up festive food and drink from around the world.

Another option for holiday gifts is Haas Gear. The Haas Gear Store is holding a pre-holiday sale through Nov. 19 in Room S545. On sale now: A special winter package that includes a quad golf umbrella and black microfleece jacket for $49.95 — more than $10 off the regular price.

The Haas community also has the opportunity this holiday season to make a difference in the life of a disadvantaged family through the Haas Giving Tree in the BofA Forum. The last day to leave a gift at the Haas Giving Tree is Dec. 14. To participate, take a wish card from the Giving Tree. Then buy that gift on the card for a child in the Bay Area and simply place the gift with the wish card attached under the Haas Giving Tree. At the end of the season, these gifts will be distributed to the children.

The Haas Giving Tree has been coordinated by Gwyn Jones, MBA 11, in collaboration with the Family Giving Tree project, a local charity started by San Jose State MBA students. For more information or questions, visit familygivingtree.org or email Gwyn Jones.
