The annual Haas Holiday Celebration is moving off campus this year to the recently renovated Hotel Shattuck Plaza in downtown Berkeley. The festivities will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10.
Located at 2086 Allston Way just below Shattuck Avenue, the Hotel Shattuck is within blocks of many Haas offices that have moved off campus in the past few years, including Development and Alumni Relations, the Center for Executive Education, Marketing and Communications, and Business Services.
The Shattuck, Berkeley's first and oldest hotel, has been transformed into a boutique hotel after a year-long multimillion-dollar renovation. It won a Best of the Bay award from the East Bay Express in July.
Faculty and staff from both on- and off-campus will have the opportunity to catch up over multicultural holiday fare that will include pulled pork sliders, chilled soba noodle salad, mini cheese enchiladas, and holiday desserts.
Entertainment also will follow a new format this year: a talent show (without karaoke). Faculty and staff hoping to share their hidden or not-so-hidden talents—anything from singing to reading poetry to playing a musical instrument—should contact Sherrie Stewart at firstname.lastname@example.org in the Dean's Suite.
Haas Giving Tree
During the holiday season, the Haas community also can make a difference in the life of a disadvantaged family through the Haas Giving Tree. Take a wish card from the Haas Giving Tree in the Bank of America Forum before Dec. 15 and purchase the gift on the card for a child in the Bay Area. Then simply place the gift with the wish card attached under the Haas Giving Tree, and at the end of the season these gifts will be distributed to the children.
The Haas Giving Tree has been coordinated by second-year MBA student Gwyn Jones in collaboration with the Family Giving Tree project, a local charity started by San Jose State MBA students. For more information of questions, visit familygivingtree.org or email Gwyn Jones.
