This article is more than 2 years old.

Every January, Thinkers50, dubbed the ‘Oscars of Management Thinking,’ ranks the top 30 management thinkers to watch on their Radar List, and leaders across the globe wait with bated breath. As a 2021 member of the Radar List and winner of the Radar Distinguished Achievement Award, I had the opportunity to speak with Des Dearlove and Stuart Crainer, the co-founders of Thinkers50, as well as several members of the 2022 Radar List class. The confidential, proprietary selection process looks for an eclectic group of up-and-coming leaders of impact from around the globe.

The 2022 Radar List winners hail from multiple continents and are working to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. While they may not have all the answers, they ask difficult questions and forge a path forward. The topics of expertise are as diverse as the winners themselves.

“The Thinkers50 Radar list is a celebration of the diversity of ideas,'' shared Des Dearlove, co-founder of Thinkers50. We not only welcome but positively seek out the rainbow spectrum of thought that comes from seeing the world from multiple perspectives and backgrounds.”

The Radar Class of 2022, continued Dearlove, includes a Sri Lankan-born Irish computer scientist, a trailblazing US leadership coach for young women, a Norwegian expert on superclusters, a British-born champion of transformational justice, a crisis management specialist from Sierra Leone, and the Canadian innovator of the year. It is our privilege to help showcase their eclectic ideas,” shared Dearlove.

I sat down with a few of the 2022 Radar List winners to get insight into their drive and unstoppable spirit.

Ori Brafman

Distinguished Teaching Fellow at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business

Author, Radical Inclusion: What the Post–9/11 World Should Have Taught Us About Leadership

Ori Brafman, predicted how decentralization would change the world. He later explored psychological research on irrational behavior, and still later he joined forces with the 18th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Martin Dempsey, to explore how inclusion is a strategic imperative.

“I'm thrilled to be amongst people thinking about how we can emerge through these times in ways that are even more energizing and connective.”

Julie Carrier

Founder, The Leadership Development Institute for Young Women

Author, Girls Lead

Julie Carrier understands that you can’t be what you can’t see. As leadership is often not taught in school, Carrier is changing that, one school at a time. She molds future leaders by researching and bringing evidence-based, applied-neuroscience leadership coaching and development, typically reserved for C-suite executives, to reach girls and young women in high school when it can have the most profound impact.

“I’m so grateful to Thinkers50 for amplifying this trailblazing leadership work to develop the next generation of women leaders and for bringing us so much closer to the goal of reaching a million young women globally!”

Deborah Heiser, PhD

CEO, The Mentor Project

TEDx, Rethinking Aging: Mentoring a New Generation

Dr. Heiser’s story appears in The Success Factor.

Dr. Deborah Heiser is an applied developmental psychologist and co-founder and CEO of The Mentor Project. She believes that our most precious natural resources are not oil, coal, or gas; it is intellect, skills, and expertise. Heiser believes in the power of generativity, the desire to give back. With The Mentor Project, she assembled the world’s experts to give back, for free, through mentorship.

“I am stunned and honored to receive the Thinkers50 Radar Award. This award is a powerful benefit for my personal growth and, in turn, a window of opportunity to expand global work in mentorship.”

Tamsen Webster

Author, Find Your Red Thread

Tamsen Webster transforms ideas into action. Part strategist, part storyteller, part English to English translator, Webster unlocks the code people use to make sense of their ideas and helps them get their complex ideas across to other people and organizations.

"There are few things more important to me than the opportunity to create knowledge that moves others' work forward. For Thinkers50 to notice and acknowledge those efforts, is an honor I could truly only dream of."

Des Dearlove and Stuart Crainer are always on the prowl for emerging thinkers with the power to change the world. The 2022 Radar List winners are perfect examples of people who never settle for the status quo and see the possibility in every challenge.
