Overington boasts an impressive career spanning more than three decades in the realm of drug discovery, where he has been instrumental in crafting foundational data resources crucial for AI-powered drug development. In addition, Norman Sussman has been serving as the Chief Medical Officer of DUREC since 2020, bringing with him a wealth of experience in clinical research and development, cultivated over a remarkable 30-year career in both academic and industry settings. Furthermore, Jeffery Schipper, an industry stalwart with over a quarter-century of experience in engineering and executive roles within prominent Fortune 100 healthcare companies, holds the esteemed position of Co-Founder and Director at Restech. 2. John Overington

Title: Chief Data Officer

John Overington is the Chief Data Officer of Exscientia, an AI-driven precision medicine company committed to discovering, designing and developing the best possible drugs in the fastest and most effective manner. Notably, Exscientia developed the first-ever functional precision oncology platform to successfully guide treatment selection and improve patient outcomes in a prospective interventional clinical study, as well as to progress AI-designed small molecules into the clinical setting.

Overington has over 30 years of experience in drug discovery and has developed several of the foundation data resources for AI-based drug discovery. After his Ph.D. in Protein Modelling and Structural Bioinformatics at Birkbeck College, University of London, and a postdoc at Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now CRUK), Overington joined Pfizer. This was followed by scientific leadership positions at Inpharmatica, EMBL-EBI, Benevolent AI. He also worked at the Medicines Discovery Catapult, his most recent position prior to joining Exscientia.

 

3. Mohammad Millwala

Mohammad Millwala began his professional career 20 years ago. Today, he is the Chief Executive Officer of DM Clinical Research, a network of clinical trial investigator sites based out of Houston, Texas. They are the link connecting pharmaceutical and research organizations to caring individuals seeking to power the advancement of medicine.

DM Clinical Research works with qualified physicians with a diverse range of specialties — including cardiology, endocrinology, pediatrics, rheumatology, pulmonology and family medicine — and have conducted a wide variety of studies with successful enrollment targets. Millwala got his start in 2003 as a branch manager at Dyna Care Home Health. He graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with an MBA and from Greenwich University with an undergraduate degree.

 

4. Jonathan Abrarpour

Title: Chief Operating Officer

Jonathan Abrarpour serves as Chief Operating Officer at Empower Pharmacy, the nation’s most advanced compounding pharmacy. They are a PCAB®-accredited 503A compounding pharmacy and have a 503B outsourcing facility designed with the FDA’s current good manufacturing practices (CGMPs) in mind. His responsibilities include the management of daily business operations, working closely with department heads and supervisors to support the day-to-day activity of employees.

Abrarpour obtained his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University. After graduating, he spent three years at Conoco Phillips as a hydraulic fracturing engineer, where he also served as a site lead on oil-field operations. He joined Empower Pharmacy in 2015 as an operations director. During his time in this role, he assisted with the creation of many support functions for both manufacturing and administration within the company. He also served as Chief Production Officer propelling Empower forward as a crucial asset to the company.

 

5. Manfredo Thibau

6. Benjamin Halladay

Benjamin Halladay is the Chief Financial Officer of Esperion. He first joined the company in 2020 as finance manager in Tech Ops. Halladay has served as the company’s Senior Director, Financial Planning and Analysis since August 2022. Sussman has extensive clinical experience and expertise in the field of liver disease and brings over 30 years of clinical research and development experience in academia and industry. Prior to joining DURECT, he was an Associate Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and a faculty member of Baylor College of Medicine intermittently since 1985.

During that time, Sussman served as a principal investigator for research focused on the assessment and management of acute liver failure and artificial liver support. Sussman gained leadership experience in industry as the Founder and Vice President of both Amphioxus Cell Technologies from 1995 to 2003; and Hepatix, Inc. from 1993 to 1995. Most recently, he has also served in senior leadership roles as a member of the Baylor Faculty Senate and as director of the telehealth program, Project ECHO®, at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. Sussman received his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He then completed his residency at St. Louis University Hospital and his postdoctoral fellowship at Washington University.

 

9. Sanjay Jajoo

11. Connie Bormans

Connie Bormans is the Chief Laboratory Officer at Gene by Gene, a privately owned laboratory located in Houston, TX. Bormans completed her undergraduate studies at Lafayette College and received her PhD in genetics from Texas A&M University, where she developed STR marker panels for use in plant breeding. As a Research Fellow at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, she managed three large scale projects to identify genes related to cardiovascular disease before moving to Gene by Gene.

Over the last 16 years, Bormans created the numerous policies and procedures that enabled the Gene by Gene laboratory to acquire AABB, NYSDOH, and CLIA/CAP accreditations. Her expertise involves assay design, regulatory requirements, high throughput DNA analysis including STR, SNPs and DNA sequencing, relationship testing, clinical diagnostic testing – and, most recently, investigative genetic genealogy use in law enforcement cold cases.

 

12. Jeffery Schipper

Jeffery Schipper is the Co-Founder and Director of Restech, a company that believes there is a better way to manage reflux. Schipper has a breadth of experience with over 25 years in engineering and executive positions within major fortune 100 healthcare companies. 18. Travis McGrady

20. William Lumpkin

The mission of Neurogene is to turn devastating neurological diseases into treatable conditions to improve the lives of patients and families impacted by these rare diseases. Neurogene is developing novel approaches and treatments to address the limitations of conventional gene therapy in CNS disorders.

This includes selecting a delivery approach to maximize distribution to target tissues and by designing products to maximize potency and purity for an optimized efficacy and safety profile. Seth has 16 years of experience. She began her career in 2007. Before joining Neurogene, Seth was a head of research, technology and viral therapy at Lonza. Before that, she served as a senior research scientist at Stem Cell Innovations. Seth graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a Ph.D. in molecular and cell biology.
