After missing nearly the entire 2023 season with an injury, Cal center Matthew Cindric was to eligible to return in 2024 for what would have been a seventh college season.

However, it was always considered a long shot that he would be back for another season., and Cindric announced on Thursday that he has declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.

Cindric had missed the final six games of the 2022 season with a torn biceps muscle and was unsure whether he would come back in 2023.

He opted to return but in the opener against North Texas, he suffered a season-ending torn biceps muscle in the other arm.

Cindric said in late September that doctors indicated he will not be able to participate in any postseason all-star games or the NFL combine camp in February.  He is hoping to participate in Cal's Pro Day in March to show pro scouts what he can do.

Cindric redshirted his first season at Cal in 2018, but he started 11 games as a redshirt freshman.

He started three games in Cal's four-game 2020 season, which did not count against players' college eligibility, and he started 11 games in 2021..

Cindric started the first six games of 2022, with three of those starts being at center and three at guard, before sustaining the season-ending injury in the seventh game.

Then came the disappointing 2023 season, when he barely played at all.

Cindric got his degree from Cal in May 2022 by graduating from the Haas School of Business.
