Susan Peters, chief learning officer at General Electric, will speak at Haas as part of the Dean’s Speaker Series on Feb. 23 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Room.

Peters is a vice president and leads executive development for GE. Responsible for talent identification, leadership development, and succession planning for GE executives worldwide, she assumed the role in 2001.
Peters first joined GE through the Human Resource Management Program of GE Appliances in 1979. She has served in a variety of human resources roles and became the senior human resources manager for GE Appliances in 1993. Peters was appointed a company officer in 1997 and in 2000 became executive vice president of human resources for NBC. In 2007 she assumed responsibility for all training and development, including leadership.
Peters holds a BA in English literature from St. Mary's College, sister school of the University of Notre Dame, and a master's of education from the University of Virginia. She serves on the National Board of Directors of Girl Scouts of the USA.
GE invests about $1 billion each year on training and education worldwide. The company hosts thousands of GE employees and customers every year at the 53-acre John F. Welch Leadership Development Center in Ossining, NY. Employees from entry level to high- performing executives takes courses on such topics as innovation, strategy, and change management.
GE also offers leadership training worldwide in locations including Shanghai, Abu Dhabi, and Brussels. In 2008, the company took more than 280 people from 18 GE businesses on a tour of Asia and 50 top-level GE executives to Nigeria, Mozambique, and Kenya to explore growth opportunities in Africa.
