Classes Proceed After Small Fire in Shredding Machine

The Haas School is still in the process of assessing the damage from the earlier small fire in a shredding machine in the mail room – S545 in the Student Services Building.

No one was hurt or injured as a result of the fire. Damages are limited to the shredding machine, issues caused by water, and smoke odor. However, the school is closing the Student Services Building, including the business library, with the exception of the Dean’s Suite and S480. The computer center remains open.

For today:

  • Classes are proceeding as scheduled.
  • Access to S480 is through Cheit Hall.
  • Staff who work in the Student Services Building should meet in the Bank of America Forum as a temporary work space.
  • Staff who do not need to be on campus or who can work from home are advised to do so today. Staff members should check with their managers to discuss the best course of action.

The Haas School will provide another update this afternoon, including the plan for the remainder of the week, after more is learned about the damage.
