The UC Berkeley undergraduate chapter of Net Impact was presented the 2009 Chapter of the Year Award Nov. 14 at the 2009 Net Impact Conference at Cornell University's Johnson School.
Six representatives from the Berkeley chapter were at the conference to receive the award before the more than 2,600 attendees. Among them were undergraduate business students James Dong and Kate Geremia, both BS 10.
"Net Impact is rapidly growing its presence in undergraduate programs across the world, so it's a great honor to be recognized as the top chapter," says Dong, president of the Berkeley Undergraduate Net Impact Chapter. "It is through the collective effort of all of our members and alumni that we have received this honor."
The Berkeley chapter received the award in the undergraduate category. Chapters were evaluated on their management, chapter activities, support of their membership, impact on their school and community, and their support of the broader Net Impact network.
"The University of California, Berkeley, Undergraduate Chapter undoubtedly made their voices heard over the past year," Net Impact's central office wrote on its website. The Berkeley chapter assisted three consulting clients on sustainability projects. It also hosted a CSR (corporate social responsibility) career fair, where representatives from companies such as Starbucks and Intuit described CSR employment opportunities and discussed ethical labor practices and global supply chain strategy with the director of ethical sourcing at Hewlett-Packard.
