Dean Appointed to Board of Business School Accreditation Body


Dean Rich Lyons has been appointed to the board of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the leading accrediting organization for U.S. business schools. 

Lyons' three-year term begins July 1. He will hold one of four chairman-appointed seats on the 30-member board; the remaining positions are elected. AACSB is a nonprofit association of more than 1,200 educational institutions, businesses, and other organizations in more than 80 countries and territories. It is the leading membership and accrediting body for business schools and also provides other services, including data and research as well as conferences and seminars. 
 
"Many business schools are working on revamping their curricula in the aftermath of the financial crisis," Lyons notes. "With this new role, I look forward to becoming even more involved in shaping the national discussion on the role of business schools and business education." 
 
Lyons joins two other UC deans on the board: Andrew Policano of Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business and and Robert Sullivan of San Diego's Rady School of Management. The AACSB board also includes deans from Canada, Denmark, Peru, Spain, and the United Kingdom. 
 
Lyons previous served on the AACSB's Committee on Issues in Management Education, which is charged with identifying emerging issues and challenges in management education on a global basis. That has included how ot education for innovation and how to manage the flow of new PhD graduates into the industry.
