Awards Put Alumni’s Video Advertising Firm in the Limelight

TubeMogul – a video advertising firm founded by Haas alumni Brett Wilson, John Hughes, and Mark Rotblat, all MBA 07 – has racked up several honors in the past month, including landing among the top 10 fastest-growing Bay Area private companies.

Based on revenue growth, TubeMogul was named the seventh fastest growing private company in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Business Times at the end of October. TubeMogul also was ranked 13th on the “Technology 200,” a list of the fastest growing technology companies across the nation, compiled by Lead411, an information services company. On both lists, TubeMogul is the highest-ranking digital video advertising company.

In addition, the company was named to the “Streaming Media 100: Companies That Matter Most in Online Video” list by Streaming Media magazine.

The accolades stem in part from the growth of PlayTime, TubeMogul’s video advertising platform that launched in April, according to the company. PlayTime provides a single solution for real-time media buying, targeting, ad serving, optimization, and measurement.

The trio of alumni who founded TubeMogul met in a Lester Center-run class on entrepreneurship. They went on to spend a year working in the school's startup incubator and competed in the Lester Center's Business Plan Competition twice, first making it to the semifinals and then tying for first place. TubeMogul now employs at least 20 Haas or Cal graduates.

"The Lester Center was just an awesome launch pad to help us create TubeMogul," says Wilson. "Absolutely couldn't have done it without Haas."
