March 24, 2011
Shantanu Narayen, MBA 93, CEO of Adobe Systems, has been appointed to the President’s Management Advisory Board by President Barack Obama.
The White House announced President Obama’s intent to appoint Narayen and other distinguished business leaders to the council in a March 10 press release. The advisory board was established in April 2010 to provide advice on how to implement best business practices on matters related to Federal Government management and operation, with a particular focus on productivity, the application of technology, and customer service.
Narayen, a 1993 graduate of the Evening & Weekend MBA Program, is president and CEO of Adobe Systems, Inc. Before becoming CEO in 2007, Narayen was Adobe’s president and COO. Previously, he held key product research and development positions within Adobe and was a co-founder of Pictra, Inc., an online photo sharing service.
Narayen is a member of the Haas School Advisory Board and will next be on campus to deliver a keynote address at the Asia Business Conference in Berkeley on April 2. In addition to his Berkeley MBA, Narayen holds a B.S. from Osmania University in India and an M.S. from Bowling Green State University. His appointment follows the appointment of Professor Carl Shapiro to the White House Council of Economic Advisers and of Professor Laura Tyson and Paul Otellini, MBA 74, CEO of Intel Corp., to the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness.
President Obama said of the Management Advisory Board appointments, “I am grateful that these impressive individuals have chosen to dedicate their talents to serving the American people at this important time for our country. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead to deliver a government that’s more affordable, effective and efficient.”
