Public Leadership Dinner to Shine Spotlight on Climate Change

How industry, government, and nonprofit leaders can tackle climate change will be the focus of the 13th annual Public Leadership Dinner hosted by the Haas School's Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership on April 14. The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. at the International House in Berkeley.

Bertrand Collomb, the former chairman and CEO of Paris-based Lafarge, the world's largest producers of sustainable building supplies, will speak about his campaign to promote sustainable development and respect for the environment. His keynote address is titled "Climate Change: A Business Experience and Global Governance View."

During his time as CEO of Lafarge, Collomb drove the company's policy in the area of sustainable development, including developing a pioneering partnership with the World Wildlife Fund. He currently serves as honorary chairman and a director on Lafarge's board.

In the U.S. Collomb also is a board leader at San Francisco-based ClimateWorks Foundation, a $1 billion nongovernmental organization that supports public policies that prevent dangerous climate change and promote global prosperity.

“Bertrand has the vantage point of someone who has coordinated a global effort across industries and sectors,” says Andrik Cardenas, director of operations at the Center for Nonprofit and Public Leadership. “He brings not only topic knowledge, but also a sense of what it takes to succeed when you’re working for social impact on this scale.”

The dinner is also a networking opportunity for Haas students, alumni, and others in the various UC Berkeley professional schools with industry and nonprofit leaders, Cardenas says.
