Polish National Bank President to Speak Aug. 30

Marek Belka, president of the National Bank of Poland and the nation’s former prime minister, will speak on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 12:30 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Room as part of the Dean’s Speaker Series.

Belka has given talks around the world in recent months on the global economic crisis, and the European financial crisis in particular. His perspective is based on a long and successful international career in government and finance.

Belka served as prime minister of Poland from 2004 to 2005 and was appointed president of the National Bank of Poland last June. Before that, he worked as a consultant to Poland’s Ministry of Finance, the country’s Central Planning Office, and the World Bank. Belka also has worked for the United Nations as executive secretary of its Economic Commission for Europe and for the International Monetary Fund as director of its European Department.

Belka's talk is free and open to the Haas community; a light lunch will be served. Registration is required. Details on how to register will be added to the Dean's Speaker Series website as the event time approaches.
