Mark Your Calendar for Upcoming Spring Events

A talk by a top marketing guru and conferences on everything from energy to health care are part of a busy lineup of events this spring semester at Haas.

Haas Professor Emeritus David Aaker, vice-chairman of international brand and marketing consulting firm Prophet, will be the first speaker to address the Haas community in 2011. Aaker will talk at Haas, on Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Room. A world-recognized marketing expert, Aaker will talk about his new book, Brand Relevance, to be released in January.

The event, the “David Aaker Distinguished Lecture Series in Marketing,” is co-sponsored by the Dean’s Speaker Series, the MBA Marketing Club, and the Undergraduate Marketing Club. Stay tuned for more details early next year on other top business leaders coming to Haas during the spring semester as part of the Dean's Speaker Series.

Meanwhile, several other executives will visit the school in March to speak at three conferences:

  • 15th Annual Women in Leadership Conference, March 5, at Haas. Nancy Mahon, senior vice president of M•A•C Cosmetics and executive director of the M•A•C AIDS Fund, is among the three keynote three speakers who will address an expected crowd of 450 students, alumni, and Bay Area professional women. (Organizers are awaiting confirmation on two others.) Speakers and sessions at this student-run conference will highlight the theme “Redefining Leadership, Making it Your Own.”
  • 5th Annual Business of Healthcare Conference, March 12, at Haas. This student-run conference will focus on innovation, with three keynote speakers. Panels will address innovation in three areas: mobile health and design related to access in rural communities and developing countries, health IT as it applies to electronic medical records, and innovation in the development of medical devices and diagnostics.
  • 16th Annual Power Conference on Energy Research and Policy, March 17, at the Krutch Theater on the Clark Kerr campus.

Competition season will start in January. Executive summaries are due Jan. 19 for the Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) and Jan. 26 for the Berkeley Business Plan Competition.

The Haas Western U.S. regional semi-final round for the GSVC is scheduled for March 18. The global finals competition will be held on April 7 and April 8, followed by the Conference on Social Entrepreneurship on April 9.
