Haas Takes Third in Stock Pitch Competition

Berkeley MBA students took third place Friday among 15 teams in the Alpha Challenge Long-Short Stock Pitch Competition hosted by the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School.

The Berkeley-Haas team, the school's first to place in the top three in the history of the event, consisted of Chris Anderson, Robbie Bhathal, and Tarun Pandit, all MBA 12.

The Alpha Challenge, the premier MBA event in the investment management industry, asks students to propose a pair trade (one long and one short recommendation) in presentation format to a panel of hedge fund executives and mutual fund portfolio managers. The teams are given six days to select two stocks from a list of 60 alternatives and prepare detailed investment recommendation materials.

This year’s participants included teams from University of Pennsylvania, University of Virginia, Columbia, University of Chicago, MIT Sloan, Northwestern, Dartmouth, London Business School, University of Michigan, Cornell, Emory, Duke, UNC, and Carnegie Mellon.
