Haas' team placed second in the Alpha Challenge investment management competition, competing against MBA students from 16 business schools.
The annual challenge, held Nov. 20-21, is hosted by the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. Students on the Haas team included Zane Keller, MBA 15, Raj Chanderraj, MBA 16, and Frances Fan, MBA 16.
In its 10th year, the Alpha Challenge requires that MBA teams make one long and one short investment recommendation from a predefined mix of stocks. The students defend their analysis in front of a panel of judges including hedge fund managers, institutional portfolio managers, and equity research analysts.
Jim Jones, a research analyst at William Blair, co-founded the Alpha Challenge when he was an MBA student at Kenan-Flagler in 2004.
Columbia Business School won first place this year and the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business finished third.
