Financial Reporting Conference to Explore Change and Complexity in Accounting, Oct. 29
October 04, 2010
Former Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) Chairman Robert H. Herz will talk on “Financial Reporting at the Crossroads" at the 21st annual Conference on Financial Reporting on Friday, Oct. 29.
Herz, who stepped down as FASB chairman on Oct. 1, will give the opening address at the conference, which is sponsored by the Haas School's Center for Financial Reporting and Management. The event will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame; a pre-conference workshop will run from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at the same location.
Herz led the effort to change the controversial financial reporting for stock compensation, among other accomplishments. Both a CPA and a chartered accountant, Herz was a senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers before being appointed FASB chairman in July 2002.
The conference, which is expected to attract 300 accounting and finance professionals, will focus on managing change and complexity in the current economic and reporting environment.
Maria Nondorf, executive director of the Center for Financial Reporting and Management, will make opening remarks at the conference and present the Berkeley Award for Distinguished Contributions to Financial Reporting. The award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated courage, leadership, stewardship, or other meritorious performance in providing financial information useful to investors in making investment decisions.
Other speakers and panelists will include FASB board members and staff, Securities and Exchange Commission accounting staff, International Accounting Standards Board members, accounting firm senior partners, and CFOs from companies from diverse industries.
The pre-conference workshop on Oct. 28 will educate attendees on current developments related to fair value measurement and FASB’s proposed changes to the measurement, classification, and presentation of financial instruments.
