Berkeley-Columbia EMBA Ranked #5 among U.S.-based Programs

The Berkeley-Columbia Executive MBA program ranked #22 in the world and #5 among U.S.-based executive MBA programs, according to a survey published by the Financial Times today, Oct. 24.

Berkeley-Columbia alumni ranked their program #4 in the world when asked whether it allowed them to achieve their aims–the only measure of program quality or alumni satisfaction in this ranking. No other U.S.-based program participating in this ranking achieved such a high alumni satisfaction rating.

Last year, the Berkeley-Columbia Program ranked #16 worldwide and #3 among U.S.-based programs.

In another ranking of U.S.-based EMBA programs U.S. News & World Report ranked the Berkeley-Columbia program #9 earlier this year.

Faculty research was ranked #6 in the world by the Financial Times, based on Haas and Columbia faculty research published in any of 45 academic journals selected by the Financial Times. A combined score of PhD placement for Haas and Columbia students at top-ranked business schools ranked #8.

The Financial Times focuses on the international aspects of EMBA programs, such as international students and faculty diversity, international program content, and international careers. As a result, of the top ten programs, seven are international partnership programs–such as Kellogg/Hong Kong, Trium: HEC/LSE/ NYU, UCLA/NUS–or are based abroad.

The ranking is based on a survey of alumni from the class of 2008 (which completed its coursework at Haas in 2007) and data provided by participating schools:

  • 55% of the ranking is based on alumni responses. Of that, 40% is current salary and salary percentage increase from pre-MBA to this year.
  • 25% is based primarily on international diversity measures, such as percentage of international and female students, faculty, and school advisory board members as well as international program content.
  • 20% is based on “idea generation” or intellectual capital measures.
